HOAGLAND, John Clinton

John Clinton Hoagland, 79, Covington, died at 7:40 p.m. Thursday, April 27, at Americana Nursing Home in Danville, Illinois.
  He was born July 12, 1903 in Tippecanoe County, the son of George W. and Ella Pearson Hoagland. He married Ruth Marie Hankins August 3, 1926, who survives.

  He had farmed and was in construction work and worked on the building of the Fountain County courthouse. He later was a custodian at the Covington Post Office. He was a member of Covington United Methodist Church, Fountain Lodge 60 F and AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Rockville Low 12 Club, Troy Chapter 145 Order of Eastern Star, Fountain-Warren County Scottish Rite Club and Gil Harvey Court 30 Order of Amaranth of Danville, Illinois.

  Other survivors include eight children, Alvina VanPelt, Helen Bellis and Kathryn Hines, all of Covington, John Richard of Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, George T. of Yucca Valley, California, Nathaniel of San Diego, California, Harry of Oakwood, Illinois and Naomi Hauk of Ridge Farm, Illinois; a brother, Ray of Lafayette; a sister, Mrs. Mary Warnock of Hemet, California; 15 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, sister and grandson.

  Services were conducted Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Covington with Rev. Robert Miller and Rev. Paul Kent officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Covington. Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. – thanks to S
